In addition to a booming farm economy, Herman offers an abundance of recreational diversions. Whether it's summer, fall, winter or spring, outdoor activities abound in Herman.

The Summer
The summer vacationer may choose one of many sites to camp, fish, or hike in the scenic landscape. Pine Ridge and Cottonwood Lake Park offer excellent fishing and picnic spots. Venture six miles to the south of Herman and find Niemackl Lake Park. This park maintains complete camping facilities located in the heart of the newly-restored Niemackl watershed basin. The restoration of the watershed basin has been recognized as one of the most productive environmental projects in the state of Minnesota.

Over 100 sculptors gather here in August each year to make cast iron sculpture at the annual Herman Iron Pour at Niemackl Lake Park. The 8th Annual Herman Pour, Prairie Fire, takes place August 14 - 18, 2002. Visitors are invited to watch the entire process from pattern to finished sculpture. There are seven sculptures at the park that were created by visiting artists and community members.

Herman is also the home to the Grant County Fair.  Usually at the end of July, the fair is four days long and includes all of the essentials: 4-H food stand and building, livestock arena, carnival, dances, bingo, rodeo and much much more!  Come check it out!

The Fall
Fall provides the avid outdoorsman with superb hunting. Small game birds such as geese and ducks find excellent habitat all around the Herman area. With the arrival of fall, mallards, teal, Canadian geese, and many other species of waterfowl frequently appear in flight as they begin their annual southern migration. Deer hunting, another favorite fall activity, thrives among the local marshes and wildlife production areas which provide favorable conditions for several species of small and big game animals.

Fall also marks the beginning of high school sports.  Herman is paired with Chokio-Alberta for Volleyball and Football.  The Titans (volleyball) play usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays while the Spartans (football) play on Fridays.  Come show support for the teams and watch their games.

The Winter
For the winter recreational enthusiast, Herman and the surrounding area provides excellent snowmobiling, skiing, and snow boarding opportunities. Andes Tower Hills, located 30 minutes east of Herman, maintains facilities for snowboarding, downhill and cross-country skiing. Snowmobile trails from Herman provide a great afternoon's adventure. Visitors will find plenty of winter fun in Herman.
