Herman, USA  to be shown next Friday in Minneapolis

by Nick Ripperger

Hermanites might get their best shot yet at seeing the movie,  Herman, USA,  when it comes to Minneapolis on April 6.

The film was shown earlier this month in Fargo as part of the Fargo Film Festival, but due to the short notice, perhaps not everyone in the community who wamted to go was able to.

Now we have a little more lead time, and some free tickets besides.   Herman, USA  will kick off a Twin Cities film festival at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 6, at the Historic State Theatre in the 800 block of Hennepin Ave. in downtown Minneapolis. The festival is being sponsored by the Minnesota Film Board and Target.

Co-producer Jeff Hohman has made arrangements for the Herman community to receive 40 complimentary tickets, and possibly more if they are available. He will be sending those tickets to the Herman Review. He is also sending 40 tickets to the community of New Germany, where most of the movie was filmed.

As for the rest of the tickets, they apparently are being distributed to some high profile people in the Twin Cities, including state legislators. The State Theatre can accommodate about 2,500 people, and Hohman hopes that at least 2,000 people will attend.

Regarding the Herman crowd, if there is enough interest, a charter bus from Utopia Tours can be reserved for people who prefer not to drive. The arrangements are being made through Community Education at the school. At least 30 people must sign up in order for the bus to be reserved. The cost will be $20 per person.

If you want to take the bus, sign up with Tracy at the school by Monday, April 2. Your $20 must be paid in advance in order to secure your seat. If not enough people sign up, you will receive a refund or your uncashed check back. The maximum number the bus can hold is 40.

Regarding the complimentary tickets, people may come to the Review office to sign up on a first-come, first-serve basis. Until we know the total number of tickets we will get, each family will be limited to two. If you would like more than that, indicate it when you sign up. If we have the tickets available, we will distribute them accordingly.

Signing up for the complimentary tickets and signing up for the bus are two separate things. You may sign up for either or both, but to sign up for the bus, you must go to the school. To sign up for the tickets, you must go to the Review office.

Hohman said that tickets also will be available for sale at the theater starting at 6:30 p.m., on a first-come, first-serve for those people unable to get a complimentary ticket.

There will be a party/reception after the movie, to which the attendees are invited.

If other pertinent information becomes known in the next few days, we will report it in next Thursday's Review.
