Ken Hanson Wedding Videos -- preserving memories with videos by Olivia Richards, Herman Review Ken Hanson of Herman helps preserve memories with videotapes. He will videotape special events and make photo videos from your photos for all types of events. His interest in video taping started in 1981-82 when the Herman-Norcross high school basketball team had a successful championship season. He videotaped the games for the team and pieced together a memory tape at the end of the year filled with highlights from the successful season. Two weeks later, he was asked to videotape his brother's wedding. From these initial beginnings, he began to ask other engaged couples if they had an interest in having their weddings taped. His business seemed to be launched when he was asked to tape sporting events, special events, and weddings. He soon realized that attendance at all sporting events was becoming more than he could handle. He scaled back to only providing a video that included highlights of the school year such as homecoming coronation, prom, and graduation ceremonies. He continued doing that for about 10 years. Community events of interest Ken has videotaped include the Odd Fellows Hall of Fame banquet, Special Olympics held at Pine Ridge Park near Norcross, 50th wedding anniversary celebrations, First Responder drills, the all-school reunion held in 1991, two pastor retirement dinners, two funerals, a few seconds of footage submitted for ABC's 20/20 TV show, and helped document a search warrant for the Fargo Police Department. Ken covers a 50-mile radius of Herman, but has taped weddings in the Twin Cities. He has upgraded his video camera through the years with the latest technology. He has plans to add DVD as an option for wedding recordings next year. He says he has taped nearly 200 weddings and wouldn't mind being an assistant wedding consultant. He has noted most weddings are well planned, but a few should have had more consideration for their guests. Most notably, the amount of time the guests are kept waiting at the reception for the couple to arrive, and getting the dance started promptly after the reception are two areas Ken believes couples should be more mindful. Ken has witnessed some unique ideas incorporated into weddings. This past summer the couple arrived at the chapel on the lake by canoe. Another couple released butterflies outside the church following the ceremony. Still another couple released balloons outside, and another dropped balloons from the balcony during the recessional. The largest wedding party taped by Ken thus far, was a party of 14 bridesmaids, 14 groomsmen, seven ring bearers, and five flower girls, plus the bride and groom, of course. In another wedding the maid of honor was an identical twin to the bride and the best man was an identical twin to the groom. Does he have any footage that would qualify to be submitted for America's Funniest Home Videos? No, not yet, he says. If you have an upcoming wedding or an occasion that you would like videotaped, call Ken at 320-677-2397. He will be glad to add your event to his calendar. |
