First National Insurance Agency --
all forms of insurance

Herman Review

by Olivia Richards

The First National Insurance Agency is a separate entity of the First National Bank of Herman. The agent is Ken Werk, and he can be found at the First National Bank in downtown Herman.

The agency provides multiple insurance products for farmers and other individuals. Policies include property casualty insurance, that is, multi-peril and crop/hail insurance, life and health insurance, and long-term care insurance.

Long-term care insurance has become an insurance of interest lately since people are likely to arrange for their own care when they age. To help protect assets, long-term care insurance provides a good alternative to help fund long-term care at a nursing home, for home health needs, or even at an assisted living facility.

Medicare supplement insurance programs are also offered to assist persons when they reach retirement age.

Ken says since they are a local agency, the policy holder can rely on them for claim assistance.

"We provide local, convenient, and personal service. We are here to sit down and talk with them," said Ken. "We arenıt a high volume business. We try to take good care of those who have policies with us."

The agency caters to policy holders in a 20-mile radius of Herman, serving people particularly in Grant, Traverse, and Stevens Counties.

Ken has been with the bank for 22-1/2 years and is president, and the insurance agencyıs only agent. He is assisted by Nancy Thompson and Cindy Prothero. Nancy has been employed at the bank for 25 years. She is the correspondent for life and health-related insurance policy holders. Cindy works with farmers concerning multi-peril insurance needs. She has handled these insurance needs for 15 years.

Ken grew up in the Herman area and graduated from Herman High School and North Dakota State University with a major in agriculture education. He taught vo-ag education for ten years in North Dakota, prior to joining the Lincoln State Bank in Wyndmere, North Dakota, as its manager. He also handled insurance needs at Wyndmere, giving him a combined 25 years of insurance experience.

Ken moved his family to Herman in June, 1980, and became affiliated with the First National Bank of Herman.

To benefit the agency and its policyholders, Ken participates in continuing education for agents held yearly. It keeps him abreast of changes in the insurance industry. Several professional groups lead the training seminars.

If you are interested in property casualty insurance, that is, multi-peril and crop/hail insurance, life or health insurance, or long-term care insurance, give Ken a call at the First National Bank in Herman at 320-677-2211. He will be happy to sit down with you, to provide local, convenient, and personal service for all your insurance needs.
