Danny Bertram has been part of the Herman business district for 24 years, doing business as Dan's Body & Paint at 516 Atlantic Avenue North.
Danny says he can fix any kind of problem with the body of a car, excluding the motor and drive train.
He is a Herman native, having grown up here and is a graduate of the Herman-Norcross Community School. Upon graduation, he attended and graduated from Willmar Technical College in auto body repair.
Returning to Herman, he began doing business in the back of the D&L Service station, which is his parent's business.
A year later, in the spring of 1979, he built a new building next door to D&L, allowing him to have a great deal more space in which to work on vehicles.
Body work has changed over the years, Danny said. "It is not as much of an art as it used to be. Now panels and parts are replaced rather than fixed."
Danny makes it his business to be particular in every way when he works on a car. "I treat it like it's my own," he said. He strives to restore a vehicle into the pre-accident condition it was, relieving the customer of any worry that it wouldn't be corrected in the right way. "I strive to do it right the first time. I don't want any customer to not be satisfied," said Danny.
While individual customers were common a few years ago, now the work is 70-80% insurance related. He says he is willing to work with any insurance company from start to finish.
In addition to body work, Danny sells vehicle accessories.
When he isn't working during the summer, he spends time at the lake enjoying water sports. He also enjoys spending time with his family, his sons, Darin and Adam, and his daughter, LaRee.
