Doug Dahlen Repair -- You break it, we fix it! by Olivia Richards, Herman Review Doug Dahlen's Repair shop is located at his rural residence one mile south of the intersection of Highways 54 and 27. His central location between the communities of Donnelly, Hoffman, Herman, and Elbow Lake has drawn trade from those surrounding areas. Doug decided while attending Coon Rapids High School he wanted to be a mechanic. He took advantage of a half-day work program offered by the school and High Ten Service Center in Coon Rapids to get his start. The Service Center provided automotive repair. After graduating from high school, Doug stayed on at the Service Center, taking advantage of schooling provided by the business to attend Anoka Technical College and other education benefits provided by sponsoring parts companies. He spent 15 years at the Service Center. Doug had an itch to leave Coon Rapids. When looking through the help wanted ads in the Star Tribune in 1994, he came upon an ad placed by Herman-Norcross Ag Services, who were looking for a mechanic. Doug answered the ad and was hired. Doug and his wife, Pam moved to the Woodrow and Fern Thompson farm, (his grandparents), which he has since bought. Two years ago Doug decided to start his own business at the farmsite. Doug is equipped to do all types of mechanical repair. He is willing to work on cars, trucks, tractors, and ATVs; boat wiring, bearings and lights, and boat motors; lawn mowers, weed whips, and chain saws; all types of welding, and small engine repair. He can provide brake work, install shocks and struts, repair air conditioning, and help you comply with D.O.T. truck inspections. He has equipment for computer diagnostics. An avid sportsman when it comes to pheasants, Doug raises pheasant chicks for release in mid-summer. Chicks can be purchased from Doug for release on your land. In conjunction with his interest in pheasants, Doug and Pam operate a game farm and shooting preserve on 700 acres of prime hunting land on their farm. He will provide guide service, a retriever dog and firearms, if needed. Doug says, "It's hunting at its finest." There's still time to bag a pheasant at the game farm and preserve, since pheasant season remains open until December 15. Doug's hours are Monday through Saturday, 8-5 p.m., but he says he is flexible. He can be reached at 320-986-2186 or 320-766-5794. His address is 20916 140th Street, Herman, MN 56248. |
